Summer is a season that calls for bikinis, sunscreen and flip-flops.
Although it’s not summer yet, the recent warm weather has reminded me of beaches, boats, seashells and sunsets.
If you feel the way I do and are ready for some fun in the sun a great classic look is the nautical trend.
A white and navy striped shirt paired with red heels, red lipstick, an anchor necklace and finished with a red blazer, red wayfarer sunglasses or a red headband is perfect for a summer’s day or even just a really hot spring day!
I put together this nautical outfit from Forever 21 (thank goodness for camera timers):
White and Navy striped top – $ 7.80
Navy knit shorts – $19.80
Red wedges – $29.80
Gold anchor and seashell necklace – $6.80
You can add your choice of accessories, but I would go with gold instead of silver.
Have you ever wanted to walk the red carpet at a famous award show in a designer gown?
I’m sure most of us girls have wanted to do this at some point.
With Rent The Runway it’s possible to rent gowns and accessories from major designer labels to wear for an upcoming event.
Popular labels that you can rent from Rent The Runway include: BCBGMaxAzria, Badgley Mischka, Erin Fetherston, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, Kate Spade, etc.
Many of these designer labels have been worn by celebrities at Hollywood award shows. For example, Jana Kramer wore a Badgley Mischka gown to the 2013 ACM awards. You can see her in the dress here.
I have recently tested out this website and rented a short and sparkly Badgely Mischka dress for my sorority’s formal event.
On the website you can create your account and then start renting. Prices range from $40 to $450 for dresses. When you decide on what dress you want to rent, you then choose your size, the amount of time you want to rent it out for and the day you want to receive it. If you rent it out for longer than four days the price goes up.
I recommend choosing the day before your event to receive it that way you’ll have more time to drop it off at UPS to return it.
I enjoyed my experience with Rent The Runway because they sent me an extra dress size for free as well as a bag full of free stuff like makeup wipes, lip balm, etc. They also let me keep the hangers and garment bag and they included a pre-paid envelope to send the dresses back in.
I felt great at formal and received many compliments throughout the night! You can see a picture of me in the dress on the about me section of my blog.
Easter is approaching this Sunday and many women can be found at the mall looking for their Sunday morning dresses.
But what about in the afternoon? After church service, parties and pictures comes family time or lounge time. Why not look cute all day long and still be comfortable?
After church service, slip into something a little more comfortable but still bright and fun.
A printed or lacy white top is a great example of a blouse you could wear that is both trendy and comfortable. With a loose top you can even have an extra Easter cupcake and no one will ever know!
I have done research and have found these white tops at an affordable price. Just click on each of them and it will direct you to their website.
I also found these shorts, that would go perfect with a white top, at Forever 21!
You can find these shorts online here: http://tinyurl.com/cbx896y
The first day of spring usually brings with it a nice change of weather and it gives people fresh sense of renewal.
An obvious look for spring is floral and bright prints, but there’s another trend I’ve found while doing mall research.
The trend is lacy cut-off shorts.
This trend can be found in affordable stores like Forever 21 (pictured above) and dELiA*s, but also in more expensive brands like Lord & Taylor, Rag & Bone and Dsquared.
There’s also plenty of websites online that show you how to make them yourself!
In my research I’ve discovered these blog posts with instructions: Craft Classy, By Wilma and Petite-Fashionista.
While I was at the mall I decided to put together a look for you at Forever 21.
Here it is:
Bright pink floral top – $17.80
Denim shorts with lace – $19.80
With St. Patrick’s Day approaching this Sunday and spring just around the corner, I thought it would be the perfect time for…
A spring preview!
Spring is always a great time to bring out the bright colors and Forever 21 has some great affordable pieces this year.
This entire outfit is from Forever 21 and it’s less than $39 all together.
Green striped top – $14.80
Tangerine high-waisted shorts – $19.80
Skinny pink belt – $3.80
Neon yellow/green sandals – $22.80
The neon color trend is still very prominent this year for spring and fall. It’s cute, fun and it goes great with a sunny spring tan.
If you don’t want to wear such bright colors for St. Patrick’s day, a mint green dress or blouse is the way to go. Mint green has become a very popular color recently, and with a bubble or statement necklace and nude heels or wedges, you can’t go wrong!
If you’re like me and have ever wondered why on earth there isn’t some kind of library for clothes, have no fear Lendperk is here!
Lendperk.com is a website that allows women to rent dresses for just $20 a month.
You are allowed one dress per month and if you don’t check one out during that month you can roll that dress over so you can check out two dresses the next month.
I have recently tested the website and signed up for my own membership.
I rented this gorgeous Anthropologie dress for a night out with my boyfriend and I must say, the Lendperk system is very effective.
Other than the fact that I was able to borrow an expensive dress for a few days for just $20, I received a special personalized note from the founder of Lendperk, a pre-paid envelope to send the dress back in and a cute little bag of M&Ms. I also got a ton of compliments from my boyfriend.
There are three choices of membership for Lendperk. A one dress monthly plan for $20 a month, a two dress monthly plan for $34 a month and an unlimited monthly plan for $49 a month. You can cancel your monthly plan at anytime and restart whenever you want.
There is a free 9 day trial available so if you have a special event coming up and don’t want to break the bank for it, just try Lendperk!
Who says being stylish has to cost a fortune? Not me. For every look you see in Marie Claire magazine, there is a knock off just like it but about $3,000 less expensive. So why spend the big bucks if you don’t have to?
You might think it takes so much more effort to look for a cheap version of a cute designer outfit that looks just as good, but that’s where I can help.
Young women who have a bad habit of spending too much money, like me, need someone to tell them where all the good deals and steals are. Shopaholics Synonymous is a place where you can learn how to give in to your inner fashionista without having your car repossessed.
And being a college student with an A+ in spending all of my parents money, I need the help just as much as anyone.
